Futures Day 2010

Farnborough International Airshow 2010 is delighted to announce the launch of a new exciting programme for young people. The programme, called Inspiring Young Minds towards a Career in Aerospace, Defence & Security, is aimed at students between the ages of 7 and 21 and will be launched at Futures Day at the Farnborough International Airshow on 23 July 2010 from 10.00 to 17.00.

Its aim is to get young people to be part of the solution to global challenges such as climate change.

Futures Day Programme

10:00 - 10:15 Opening Ceremony in Futures Day Pavilion
10:30 - 14:00 Treasure Hunt
10:30 - 12:30 A series of pre-bookable workshops and presentations in Hall 1A (First Floor)
10:00 - 17:00 Indoor Exhibition in Futures Day Pavilion featuring Airbus. Other exhibitors include:

  • The Bloodhound Supersonic Car
  • Airbus will be launching their "Fly your Ideas" global initiative
  • The Mars Rover
  • RAeS Schools Build a Plane Challenge in partnership with Boeing and the Light Aircraft Association
  • Hands-on activities including "Design an Engine" by the University of Manchester Aerospace & Research Institute
  • A Careers Fair

10:00 - 17:00 Outdoor exhibits in the Futures Day area include:

  • Army and RAF Outdoor Challenges
    Roaming Robots

13:00 - 13:30 Tri-nation Rocketry Finals ( UK, USA and France)
13:30 - 17:00 Air Display
15:30 - 16:00 Awards Ceremony

The programme will be the start of something exciting for young people to become more involved in STEM subjects and potentially follow a career in this successful sector.
