10 THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT FIA 2010

1.   DELEGATIONS
FIL and UKTI DSO are undertaking the joint management of Delegations at FIA10 in order to deliver a more effective Defence Delegations programme to exhibitors, and as a result, we are able to ensure greater input to the programme scheduling.  Further to this, the FIL Delegations Management will be coordinated by the same individual who took on the role at FIA08 and as such the previous experience and continuity with contacts will be extremely beneficial.  To date Delegations have been invited from 40 countries. It has been confirmed that the static aircraft display at FIA10 will see the official launch of the Boeing Dreamliner 787 on the Monday and Tuesday of the show, subject to its current test programme. In addition, we are also looking forward to a strong presence from Airbus including the new A400M and A380.

2.  STATIC DISPLAY

It has been confirmed that the static aircraft display at FIA10 will see the official launch of the Boeing Dreamliner 787 on the Monday and Tuesday of the show, subject to its current test programme. In addition, we are also looking forward to a strong presence from Airbus including the new A400M and A380.

3.   MINISTRY OF DEFENCE VISITORS
An impressive list of UK MoD Senior Officers and VIPs will visit FIA10. Some of these guests will have their own invitations and programmes for the time they spend at the airshow, however some have indicated that they will be happy to be programmed by A|D|S to visit exhibitors' stands. Further to this, there will be an MoD Engagement Zone (MEZ) stand in Hall 3 where some of the UK MoD guests will be available for brief meetings however please note these meetings will be available by prior arrangement only.

4.   WELCOME RECEPTION – Monday 19 July 2010, 7-9pm
The FIA10 welcome reception is to be held at the new prestigious venue of the London Natural History Museum.  The reception represents an ideal opportunity to network with up to 1200 guests and FIL’s guest list is comprised of official Delegations, MoD personnel and government officials.

 5.  CONFERENCE PROGRAMME – Monday to Thursday
New for 2010, A|D|S will be coordinating a series of themed conferences to provide more focus to your visit to the exhibition. Created in response to demand from exhibitors and visitors, each of the trade days has been themed around the main business sectors that our industry is involved in today. A|D|S will be organising the content and key note speakers, selected from high level industry personnel and UK government.  Each morning session lasts for 1hr 30mins so it is achievable to attend, engage and debate.  The themes are: Monday – Aerospace, Tuesday – Defence, Wednesday – Space, Thursday – Security.

6.   FUTURES DAY – FRIDAY 23 JULY 2010
Building on the ‘Youth In Aerospace’ programme, Futures Day is an opportunity for up to 5,000 young people – drawn from school Key Stage 2 to Graduate level, from all over the UK, to experience, first hand what our industry has to offer.  A purpose built structure, centrally located, will house a careers fair, seminars, Bloodhound and International Rocketry Challenge. The Careers Fair will stay in situ over the public weekend.

7.   SPACE ZONE – Hall 3
The International Space Zone is 1000m² of dedicated area which includes a lecture theatre for conferences and associated events. The Space zone has received prestigious support from ESA, ASI (Agenzi Spaziale Italiana), Astrium and BNSC.

8.   UAS FLYING
Topical and an important development for the future of FIA, which could lead to further extension to ground support exhibits and niche areas within the Airshow.  CAA legislation now permits UAS flying demonstrations for equipment of 60kg or under.   An indoor flying arena will be introduced at FIA 2010 for the demonstration of small security UAV equipment.  There will be daily indoor demonstrations in 30 minute slots.  Opportunity is very exciting and promising for all parties.

9.   FARNBOROUGH 1st FOR MEET THE BUYER
A first for FIA10; the B2B meeting will offer opportunities for SME companies to meet with 40 international buyers from 20 countries.  Open to all exhibiting companies there will be over 800 pre-planned meetings running from 10:00 – 13:00hrs across two days – Tuesday 20 July – UK Market Meetings and Wednesday 21 July for International Market Meetings.  Cost is £100 +VAT for minimum 4 meetings.

10.   VISITOR ENTRY SYSTEMS
All visitor and exhibitor passes will now be bar coded for swift access.  A new pre-registration system is in place that should alleviate unnecessary queues at entry gates.  All gates will have designated ‘Exhibitor’ and ‘Visitor’ lanes for swift show entry.
